HALLOWEEN FOXBORO ELEMENTARY
COSTUME AND VOLUNTEER GUIDELINES
Students are invited to join in our Halloween celebration on Thursday, October 31.
We will start the day at 9:15 a.m. with our Halloween Costume Parade, which will be held outside. Parents are welcome to come and enjoy the parade.
*If you are volunteering in our classrooms, you must have a background check. Feel free to call our office if you are unsure if you are in our database or to get information on how to receive one.
Halloween Costume Guidelines
Parents: please use these guidelines when planning costumes with your children. These guidelines are meant to help our Halloween celebration be respectful, responsible, safe, kind, and understanding for all.
**Be respectful: Avoid stereotypes. Be racially sensitive and culturally appropriate. Students may not dress up as an ethnic or cultural group (i.e., a Mexican, a Geisha, a Native American, etc.). Culture is not a costume. Skin color must not be altered in any way.
**Be responsible: Recognize that students in a wide age range will see the costumes. Costumes should be family friendly. Costumes may not be gory or threatening.
**Be safe: No weapons, real or pretend are allowed (i.e. light sabers, swords, hooks, Wolverine claws). Masks may not be worn. Crowns or hats may be worn.
**Be kind: Costumes should be fun and exciting, not political, or offensive.
**Be Understanding: Students may dress up as fictional characters if they follow the above guidelines.
REMINDER: No School for students the following day, November 1, 2024

Martin Luther King JR. Speech Contest
Davis School District's Office of Equal Opportunity invites all K-12 students to enter the 2024 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Speech contest. There are five categories (grade level bands) for the speech contest; K-2nd, 3rd-4th, 5th-6th, 7th-9th, & 10th-12th.
We will hold our school wide contest on Wednesday, October 16th afterschool at 1:45 PM. Please note that this is a Wednesday, and all elementary schools will follow the early out schedule that day. Foxboro Elementary will choose one student from each category (K-2, 3-4, 5-6) to advance to district judging.
There are cash prizes available for District Winners! This is a wonderful opportunity to allow our students to reflect on the legacy of Dr. King. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact Emily Furse (3rd Grade Teacher) at efurse@dsdmail.net.

Our PTA parents awarded Miss King and Ms. Rees October Teacher of the Month. Each month parents nominate teachers or staff members to be awarded Teacher of the Month by our PTA. Teachers are given an award certificate, the text from the nominating parent, and a gift from their favorite things list. Congratulations to these outstanding teachers!! This year we are teaming up with Championship Martial Arts to provide four after school beginning level classes. These $25 courses are designed for all k-6 students. Classes will be held 3:30-4:00 on October 28th, 30th, and November 4th and 6th. A flyer will be sent home with students this week. Each class offers a dynamic mix of exciting martial arts skills while also focusing on essential life skills like focus, confidence and goal setting. The program wraps up with a special graduation ceremony that celebrates your child's achievements. 100% of the proceeds will directly benefit all students at Foxboro. Payments can be made Oct. 13th - 25th to Foxboro Elementary on your MyDSD Account or in the office with cash or check only. We will have an assembly on Tuesday, October 22nd from 2:45-3:15. The Martial Arts Teachers will also be seen outside at lunch recess that week to help students learn more.

Thursday October 10, 2024 is our school picture day! You can return the paper order form (with payment) that day, or order online. If you want to place an order online, please visit BELLPHOTO.COM and use prepay code foxboro24. These pictures are used for the yearbook, so all students will get their picture taken this day! Foxboro Elementary kicked off the school year with a bang, featuring an energizing assembly with the talented band Bitter Blue. Their electrifying performance set the perfect tone as we embarked on our journey to become a certified School of Kindness. Students were inspired to be kindness rockstars on their "Tour of Kindness" this year, taking their positive actions beyond the school walls and into the community. Student leaders at Foxboro performed creative skits, demonstrating the many ways kindness can shine in various settings. With their powerful chant, "We will, we will be kind," Foxboro Elementary is setting the stage for a year filled with compassion and generosity. Let’s all join in and support their incredible efforts to spread kindness everywhere they go!
